Amber Heard has filed for divorce from Johnny Depp after 15 months of marriage.
She filed on Monday in California, citing irreconcilable differences—and she wants spousal support. Johnny is said to be worth $400 million.
In California, marital assets are divided equally, but individuals can keep their premarital assets. In 2015, Johnny made $30 million, so that’s already a cool $15 million which Amber will likely pocket. She is reportedly worth between $4.5m and $9m.
Johnny doesn’t want his soon to be ex to touch his millions, and has filed his own documents requesting the judge reject Amber’s claim to spousal support.
Johnny’s family is said to be the reason behind the split. The actor’s mom Betty Sue Palmer, 81, died just three days before Amber’s filing. Along with his mom, his two sisters and two kids apparently hated Amber and didn’t hide their feelings for the actress. Betty Sue also moved in with the couple during her long illness and that’s when things turned sour.
Amber and Johnny came out as a couple in 2012, and married in February 2015 in the Bahamas. Before Amber, Johnny dated French actress Vanessa Paradis for 14 years before splitting in June 2012. In 2015, Amber spoke to ET about the marriage, saying, “The thing that really scares me is the potential of losing my freedom. I never want for my life to lose the ability to transverse the world, with freedom and ease," she says. "The freedom and ease I have worked so hard to acquire for myself.”
Now she's free. And rich.
