This morning got off to a rough start, as we woke up to the news that David Bowie died last night at 69, just two days after his birthday and the release of his new album, Blackstar. Many artists have been taking to Twitter and Facebook to pay their tributes, but 19-year old Lithuanian artist Jolita Vaitkute (who was a newborn when Bowie's Earthling album was released) paid her homage to The Thin White Duke in the best way she could think of: Her Tribute to Ziggy Stardust is a reproduction of Bowie's Aladdin Sane face made with poppy seeds, sliced strawberries, and blueberries on cream-cheese-topped toast.
Vaitkute has a history of making portraits out of food: Her previous subjects include an image of Putin made entirely out of breadcrumbs, which she fed to chickens as a part of a political statement.
