Air passenger rights company AirHelp today announced its AirHelp Score ratings for airlines in Spring 2017, along with its first-ever rating for airports. And if you're a seasoned globe trotter, you'll likely not be shocked by to learn what the company determined to be the very best airport on earth.
Claiming the top spot for the world’s best airport was Singapore Changi Airport — which should come as no surprise to anyone who's been there: If you’re passing through, don’t miss the pool, butterfly garden, and movie theater!
Rounding out the top five behind Changi in order, are: Munich International Airport, Hong Kong International Airport, Copenhagen Kastrup Airport, and Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. You may have noticed: None of those are in the U.S.A. (And that’s right in line with Donald Trump’s famously dismal debate-night assessment of airports in the country.)
Indeed, just one U.S. airport cracked the top 10 list for the world’s best airports. And it’s not one in the country’s largest cities, such as LAX or JFK.
No, this is the spot on the list that may surprise you: It’s Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport, which came in at No. 6.
Other U.S. airports ranking in the top 50 worldwide are San Francisco International Airport way down at 19, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport ad 39, and Miami International Airport at 44.
Overall, that’s a pretty bleak showing for America's facilities — but good news for people who frequently travel through the Midwest.
For its first evaluation of airports, AirHelp rated 76 airports across the world for three months, studying quality and service, as well as punctuality. It also analyzed more than 130,000 tweets for travelers’ sentiments about the facilities.
(We're guessing Kim Zolciak-Biermann's epic Twitter rant against the Frankfurt airport did it no favors, given that criterion for analysis!)
