14 Most Epic Fireplaces in the World Where You Deserve to Thaw Out Right Now

Winter's tolerable when you're this cozy.

By Zlata Faerman

Meh, winter. Either you're heading for a fabulously warm and sunny travel destination, or you don't even want to bother leaving the house until spring. But perhaps there's something else that could entice you to get packing? How about a comfy, cozy (hygge, if you will) fireplace. Consider these gorgeous options that actually make cold climates worth enduring — and even traveling for.

1. Whiteface Lodge

When you close your eyes and think of the word "lodge," Whiteface is what you're seeing. Deep in Adirondak Park in Upstate New York, the lodge's sitting room is wood-beamed with wood furniture, cozy carpets, and cast-iron fireplaces. A hot toddy is the perfect pairing for this rustic retreat.

2. Radisson Blue Aqua Hotel

Located in Chicago's iconic Aqua Tower, this hotel's 50-foot long lobby fireplace is a dramatic focal point. It transforms the lobby into an inviting area of lounging, socializing, and obviously cocktailing.

3. Clifton's Republic

This kitschy Downtown Los Angeles restaurant is known for the massive 40-foot redwood tree that anchors the four-story space. A sight to see is the fireplace that burns at the base of the tree on the second level.

4. Moody Tongue

This culinary brewery located in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago recently opened its Tasting Room in October. Its fireplace is situated in between the largest library of beer books in the country, so you'll be especially well positioned to cozy on up with a yummy read.

5. Harbor View Hotel

A little getaway to Martha's Vineyard, anyone? Harbor View Hotel is home to 18 luxury suites, each of which has a spacious living room with a large gas fireplace. The hotel lobby's fireplace stands as the center of the space, so if you're in the mood to mingle, settle into a comfy sofa with a hot beverage and get friendly.

6. Eichardt's Private Hotel

The Queenstown, New Zealand property's Penthouse gives guests 180-degree breathtaking views of Lake Wakatipu. It's private and secluded, so feel free to sit naked in front of its stunning outdoor fireplace. Want to keep your clothes on? No worries, the fireplace by Eichardt's bar is just as nice. We promise.

7. Ice Hotel

The Hotel de Glace (known as Ice Hotel) is the only true hotel in North America made entirely of ice — specifically, 500 tons of ice and 30,000 tons of snow. There's a ton of interplay throughout between ice and fire, so grab a friend and cheers one another with your naturally chilled drinks.

8. Great Wolf Lodge

If you thought you wouldn't find an inviting fireplace inside North America's largest family of indoor water park resorts... you thought wrong. A welcoming cobblestone fireplace is a signature across each of the 14 Great Wolf Lodge properties, serving as a centerpiece in the grand lobbies. You know, just in case you want to bring the family along on your fireplace-finding adventures.

9. The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe

Adding to Lake Tahoe's abundant beauty, the Ritz features a 55-foot-high weathered granite fireplace column that's surrouned by 25-foot-high windows that provide views of the surrounding forest and ski slopes in every direction.

10. Eleven Experience Chalet Pelerin

Nestled in the French Alps in Le Miroir, Chalet Pelerin offers some of Europe's most unreal skiing landscapes. Underscoring its truly hygge essence, the spacious and cozy rooms have welcoming fireplaces right in the middle of the living space.

11. Le Germain Hotel

We love the modern twist to a fireplace that this downtown Toronto hotel lobby provides. Since it's right in the middle of the library, it can be seen from every side. So you'll want to come in off the streets of the entertainment district and cozy on up.

12. Waldorf Astoria Park City

If you're no stranger to Sundance, then you've probably encountered this gorgeous Park City fireplace. Eat, drink, and be married (literally, if you like) in front of this 300-year-old mantle. The deer on either side are hand carved out of wood and over 100 years old. Super historic and cozy, all at once.

13. Solage, An Auberge Resort

Smack in the middle of the Calistoga restaurant Solbar, this large fireplace is perfect for chilly Napa winter nights. The hotel restaurant flows out onto an outdoor patio for some al fresco dinner and drinks by a 20-foot-fire pit.

14. Hotel Pitrizza

Hey, if you want to build your vacation around a fireplace, we get it: This private Mediterranean destination on the Italian island of Costa Smeralda, Sardinia, may not warrant the need for a fireplace, but we're definitely not mad at it.
