If you’ve ever owned a dog (and if you haven’t, who are you and why are you visiting this site?), you know how hard it can be to find a rental home. If you’ve ever owned a large dog, you know it can be even harder—almost impossible, even.
Enter Jade Rouzeau, a big-hearted woman who will only rent her three-bedroom home in Jacksonville, Fla. to families with big dogs. But wait, there’s more! Own an “aggressive” breed like a pit bull, Rottweiler, Husky, or similar? No problem! In fact, that will move your application to the top of the pile.
You see, Rouzeau, a real estate agent and dog rescuer, owns two pit bulls herself, so she gets it. "People who contact us about our rental are often in disbelief, thinking that our requirement is too good to be true,” she told Today.com. She hopes her actions will inspire others to become more open-minded when it comes to renting to families with big dogs. And why shouldn’t they? Big dogs are the effing best!
Rouzeau doesn’t have a problem with small breeds, but she understands that families with larger dogs, especially those that are (often wrongly) considered dangerous, have it much harder. So what happens if a kind-looking family with a pair of well-behaved Chihuahuas applies to rent her house? “While we appreciate their interest, we politely decline to rent to them.”
Impressive and amazing as this is, let’s just say we wouldn’t want to have to be the ones to break it to Lisa Vanderpump and Giggy that they would be considered personae non grata at Rouzeau’s home.
