8 Reasons Why Lemonade is So Much Better When It's Boozy

8 Reasons Why Lemonade is So Much Better When It's Boozy

You definitely won't find these game-changing drinks at that kiddie lemonade stand down the block.

By Marcy de Luna

There's nothing better than a tall, cool glass of lemonade to sate your thirst—except for a tall, cool glass of lemonade with booze in it. Here are eight inspiring adults-only lemonades to check out this season. And definitely do try these at home, too.

The Revolution Lemonade at Pier 6 Restaurant, Boston

You'll want to grab a seat with waterfront views at Pier 6 Restaurant in Boston’s Charlestown neighborhood. And what should you have in your hand? The Revolution, an eye-popping, red-white-and-blue concoction made with raspberry vodka, housemade grenadine, laraha citrus-flavored blue liqueur and lemonade.

Cajun Lemonade at Southern Goods, Houston

Southern-inspired dishes star on the menu at the aptly named Southern Goods in Houston. But as much as you love the cuisine from down South, we're betting you've never had a Cajun Lemonade before. In this strong and spicy version, vodka combines with dry gin liqueur, fresh lemonade and Cajun-spiced rum, and a splash of hot sauce brings the heat.

Cucumber-Jalapeno Margarita at Lolita, Philadelphia

Philadelphia's lively Mexican restaurant Lolita keeps things hopping with its cucumber-jalapeno margarita, which also involves tequila, jicama and cilantro. The cooling, spicy flavors in this unusual blend will give you reason to linger, and order seconds. Photo by Credit Jason Varney.

Bubbly Blonde at Hopdoddy, Austin

Inventive burgers, frothy milkshakes and ice-cold brews may be the hallmarks of Austin’s Hopdoddy, but the Bubbly Blonde lemonade ranks right up there. The citrusy one-two kick comes from the combo of lemonade and orange juice, and the drink is spiked with not just one but two kinds of booze: house-infused elderflower liqueur, and sparkling wine.

Bourbon Maple Sour at Bailey’s Range, St. Louis

Bailey’s Range in downtown St. Louis offers a range of boozy lemonades to go with its tasty burgers, but we're partial to the bourbon maple sour: Housemade lemonade mixed with local maple syrup, orange bitters and plenty of bourbon. You'll want to go big and spring for a pitcher.

Yup…I’ll Have Another at Gracie’s, Providence

The bar at Gracie’s in  Providence gets its right with the name of its loaded lemonade specialty, made with lemon vodka, grapefruit liqueur and lemon juice. We'll definitely have another...and another.

Sparkling Cucumber at The Beehive Restaurant, Boston

The Beehive Restaurant in Boston is beloved not just for its American-inspired bistro cuisine but also for its killer cocktails, not least of which is the sparkling cucumber. They had us at lemonade and gin, but then they went and added muddled cucumber and sparkling wine for a fizzy, tangy creation we just can’t refuse.

Blackberry Bourbon Lemonade at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, Las Vegas

What happens in Vegas is worth talking about when it’s the blackberry bourbon lemonade at Yardbird Southern Table & Bar. The stiff, juicy drink—made with bourbon, blackberry puree, fresh lemon, cardamom and bitters—is the most delicious way to celebrate big wins (or drown any sorrows) before heading out of town.
