Butt Botox is a Thing—and it's Very Popular This Month

Botox is not just for your forehead, people.

By Bryce Gruber

As a record-breaking heat wave moves across the East Coast, thousands (if not millions) of innocent people will find themselves plagued by the awful, sweaty condition known as "swamp butt." Swamp butt, if you're not already familiar (lucky you), is that gnarly collection of sweat that naturally accumulates starting at the lowest portion of the back, and then drips down through one's most intimate areas. It's uncomfortable to say the least—and, um, sorry for the visual—but a few creative docs have found a way to fight the condition with Botox.

"Botox has been FDA-approved since 2004 for excessive sweating, also called hyperhidrosis," explains Dr. Dima Ali of WellMedica. "Botox is a protein complex and works by interfering with signals between nerves and sweat glands, essentially blocking the ability to sweat."

Sounds pretty great for the average Crossfitter or tropical-vacation addict, right? Well, that all depends on whether you're open to having several injections in your butt, potentially several times a year. Butt Botox, as wonderful as it is, typically lasts about six months before your dry butt dreams are cracked and require a new dose of the good stuff. Other doctors are using similar biotoxin injections like Xeomin or Dysport to get the same result.

According to Dr. Marc Mani, a top celebrity plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, results can vary but the Botox typically works very well and lasts anywhere from two to ten months— depending on just how aggressive and active your butt sweat glands are. Imagine that? Your butt glands could be the really intensely sweaty type just by their very nature. Put that on your resume.

Dr. Mani says, "It takes about fifteen to twenty injections in the anal fold, about a fifty square centimeter area," to get the job done right. Average pricing, depending on where you live, which doctor you see, and just how aggressive your, ew, lower sweat glands are, ranges from $750-$1500. But, hey, that's a small price to pay for a life free of swamp butt.
