If you have been following Carole Radziwill on Instagram (and you should—otherwise you’re missing out on bon mots memes like “She died doing what she loved most: Canceling plans.”), you’re well aware that she is in the middle of training for the New York City Marathon. It will be her first time participating in the storied sporting event—oh, and it’s also her first marathon ever.
She originally made mention of it back on June 13th with an Instagram post of her treadmill. “First Mile. 25 to go. Crushing it with 18 min. miles.” And fans everywhere were confused as Carole notoriously hates exercise. (She has said if napping were an Olympic sport, she’d win a medal.) But she told Runner’s World, “As I got into my 50s, I didn’t feel as strong as I did in previous decades. I’ve never been one to just go to the gym and exercise, so I needed a goal.”
In addition to the purely physical goal of successfully running 26 miles, Carole has added a financial goal—she’s running on behalf of the North Shore Animal League, the shelter where she adopted her two cats, Baby and Baby. (Not to be confused with her dog, Baby.)
Carole has already raised almost $2000 for the Long Island-based shelter, and hopes to keep the momentum going well until the NYC Marathon on November 5th. If you’d like to donate, you can visit her fundraising page.
Way to go, Carole! We’re rooting for you!
