We all know our dogs love us while we’re alive. But do they remember us when we’re gone?
Of course they do. And the late Carrie Fisher’s dog Gary, who outlives her, is no exception. Adopted by the actress as a therapy dog to help treat her bipolar depression, Gary is a French Bulldog with a protruding tongue and a popular Instagram account (@garyfisher). His latest post shows him watching the new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, in which his beloved mother appears.
Sob! If only humans were so eloquent. Gary, we’re sure your mother is watching you from heaven. And yes, she misses all of you, even your doggy breath.
Gary was with Fisher constantly throughout her life, appearing on red carpets, and even at the White House Correspondents’ dinner. When Fisher went into cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles on December 23, 2016, Gary was by her side. He stayed with her in the hospital until she died on December 27 at the age of 60.
Now, Gary lives with Corby McCoin, Fisher’s longtime assistant. If his Instagram is any indication, they live a very happy life together, full of naps, delicious snacks, and memories of his beautiful mother, the late, great Princess Leia.
