You've seen cruise ships with crazy-tall slides, robot bars, and other over-the-top attractions. But you've never seen this.
Celebrity Cruises has just debuted details for its new ship, Celebrity Edge — the company’s first new ship class in 10 years. There’s room for 2,918 guests on the high-design vessel, with Nate Berkus on board as design ambassador… and some downright magazine-worthy interiors.
But the ship’s design elements aren’t just about pretty decor: One feature is an over-the-top engineering feat known as the "Magic Carpet," cantilevered from the side of the ship. It’s a platform the size of a tennis court that scales the 16-deck ship through the day and evening, positioning at four of the decks, for a different experience at each stop.
For instance, at the summit of the ship on deck 16, it becomes a restaurant offering a special “Dinner on the Edge” for 90 guests. Alongside deck 14, it becomes an expansion of the main pool area. On deck five, it extends one of the ship’s restaurants into a pretty epic al fresco seating offering. And at its lowest position, on deck two, Magic Carpet becomes part of a luxe embarkation station.
As for the accommodations, staterooms with so-called “Infinite Verandas” make for a seamless connection from the room to the sea. A touch button opens the space, and other buttons offer high-tech stateroom personalization, controlling the likes of lighting, shades, temperature, and service. There’s even a setting for a tuck-in or wake-up.
Not bad, but ballers can opt for the new suite class, which comprises six split-level Edge Villas, with views from two stories of windows, private plunge pools, and direct walk-out access to the private Retreat sundeck... where a lounge offers 24-hour butler service.
But here’s the end all be all: Two new Iconic Suites situated above the ship’s bridge offer 2,600 square feet with two bedrooms, two baths, a dining room, living room, 700-foot veranda with 270-degree views of the ocean…. and, naturally, totally epic scenery.
Celebrity Edge will homeport in Fort Lauderdale, and is scheduled to make her first sailing on December 16, 2018.
