Any zoologist will tell you that species identification is difficult. (WRONG, a zoologist should not be saying that to you, please ask for his references.) However, we are mere bloggers (not zoologists), and sometimes species identification actually is difficult. (Please see: mouse-deer. Is it a mouse? Or a deer? How are we to know when both animals are right there in its name?!)
Enter: Chowder the Bear Dog, who—much like the mouse-deer—is presenting two species in one name. We have to admit, he’s pretty confusing. At first glance we truly thought he was a bear: the round head, the set-back eyes, the half-moon ears! But after a close, nearly-scientific study, we are able to conclude that Chowder is, in fact, a dog. (A dog who looks a lot like a bear, but a dog nonetheless.) (We’re pretty sure.)
Here’s where we thought Chowder was a bear:
And then we saw this video of him eating indoors from a dog bowl and we were like, “Nah, that is for sure a dog, right?”:
And then, we saw this pic and decided that he was neither bear nor dog, but simply a stuffed animal:
But looking at this pic, he is for sure a dog:
Or is he a bear about to break into your cabin to eat all your sandwiches?
Oh okay, video proof of his dogdom:
A dog doing dog things while technically looking like the fluffiest, softest, friendliest bear of all time? We love you, Chowder!
