Bravo's newest digital series, Furry, Fierce, and Fabulous stars the king of doggie couture Roberto Negrin as he works with everyday dogs to create runway-ready fashions inspired by their unique adoption stories.
Over the past few weeks, we’ve really gone deep with doggie couture. We’ve learned the proper techniques for measuring your dog. We’ve created Very Informative Quizzes that help you determine your dog’s seasonal coloring, ideal statement pieces, and personal style. We’ve even explained how to become a professional dog fashion designer, if that’s your thing.
But one thing we’ve yet to touch on? What sorts of things does a dog couturier design in his spare time? Y’know, when he’s not busy dressing celebridogs like Toast? What does he create just for funsies?
Answer: Anime. Sailor Moon. And a whole lot of Pokémon outfits. “We love Cosplay,” Roberto told Unleashed. “I love Pokémon and anime! I love dressing up my dogs for Comicon, Hello KittyCon…we love going to the conventions. We even did a whole Pikachu theme for Christmas. Next we’re doing photoshoots for the X-Men series. You’ll see Storm and Phoenix!”
Here are some of Roberto’s favorite costumes and photoshoots:
Another fun lark? Dressing his dogs as his favorite celebrities. “I love Miley Cyrus,” says Roberto. “So I made her VMA outfit [from 2015]. I did a photoshoot and the dog loved it. Then Miley reposted the photo of DJ wearing it on her Instagram! It would be a dream to dress her dogs one day.”
Other celebrity dogs he'd love to design for? "Paris Hilton's dogs. Demi Lovato's dogs. Lady Gaga's dog Asia Kinney. I identify with them because I love colors. I believe everything is colorful. I love rainbows and unicorns. I’m all about colors and positive energy and living and making the best of everything. Dogs are my canvas and I'm just the painter."
