Meet the Real Shelter Dogs of Nevada!

Viva los cute doggos!

By Stacy Lenz

Even though The Real Housewives of Las Vegas has yet to be dreamed into existence, Vegas is still a huge part of our favorite wine-guzzling TV franchise! The city of Las Vegas has brought us so many amazing Housewives moments. Who could forget when The Real Housewives of Beverly Hill’s Camille Grammer got her MTV Spring Break on in the club? And on the opposite side of the coin, who hasn't tried to forget when The Real Housewives of Orange County’s Vegas trip brought us Gretchen Rossi’s stint with the Pussycat Dolls? (And don’t even get us started on Housewives-adjacent Vanderpump Rules; they wouldn’t have had a single season without Las Vegas…)

Since Las Vegas has been such a gift to us, we want to give back by featuring some lovable dogs looking for forever homes, courtesy of Las Vegas’ own Nevada SPCA. The NSPCA is a no-kill shelter that also focuses on humane education—teaching students of all ages about compassion and respect for animals. The NSPCA’s goal is to finding loving homes for all the animals they rescue, which goes far beyond the usual dogs and cats. They also rescue and rehome rabbits, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, ferrets, potbelly pigs, goats, turtles, fish, birds and more. (We are kind of kicking ourselves that we dropped the ball on The Real Shelter Guinea Pigs of Nevada, but that is a post for another time.)

And now, meet your Real Shelter Dogs, complete with opening credits-worthy taglines!

Malachi is a 5-year-old neutered Chow Chow. He has physical and emotional challenges and needs a hero to help him be the best dog he can be. Physically, he has misshapen back legs and hips so he walks at his own pace. Emotionally, he is learning to trust people without panicking.

Machu Picchu is a 6-year-old neutered male Dachshund mix. He’s wary of strangers as he’s recovering from previous mistreatment. An experienced, adult-only home is needed for his continuing improvement.

Noble is an 11-year-old neutered male Poodle. He is a sweet, gentle boy. He likes to go on walks short walks and he does well with other dogs his size. Noble is an easy-going senior boy.

I didn't grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth. It was a tennis ball.” Lobo

Lobo is a 4-year-old neutered male Husky. Recovering from a hard life, he can sometimes be unpredictable and jumpy. He needs a lot of care from someone who has experience with Huskies.

“Some people say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Those people are wrong.” – Corky

Corky is a 10-year-old neutered male Puggle. He was surrendered because his previous owner moved to another state. He has some scarring on his face and legs from abuse early in his life, but this resilient pup has learned to trust people—especially kids—in the years since.
