Taking a minute to communicate with the hoi polloi from inside her protective bubble, Gwyneth Paltrow felt it was necessary to let everyone know her kids refer to Jay Z as “Uncle Jay.”
Gwyneth, who has been close friends with Jay and Beyoncé since 2003, loves to name drop the duo when she can, like it’s not mind-blowing that Bey comes by the house for some apple pie or whatever, or that her kids jump on stage with “Uncle Jay” when he performs with their dad, Chris Martin.
Instead of privately sending a card (maybe she did on some organic Goop paper) Gwyneth posted her #humblebrag to Instagram, wishing the rapper a Happy 47th Birthday on Sunday, alongside a picture of Jay with Apple and Moses.
“Happy birthday #unclejay,” she wrote to her 6.8M followers.
“Jay is like a big-brother figure to me. He has a very calming and mature energy. He is an amazing force in our life - the kids call him Uncle Jay and Beyoncé, Auntie B,” Gwyneth said in 2013.
“I was a mom before B so I suppose I may have passed on some advice but I have learnt so much from her, too. She is gorgeous, very feminine, very clever in that she knows how to be powerful and yet demure. And their baby Blue Ivy is totally delish. She's made me very broody.”
Jay celebrated his day with a small party in Los Angeles.
Back in 2012, Gwyneth upset her followers on Twitter when she posted the N-word (referencing a Jay song) in a snap of herself onstage with Jay, responding to the backlash by writing, “It's the title of the song!”

“Here's the thing. I think you are the coolest and I cook from your books and stick up for you when people say mean stuff about you. But, when you have everything you have to be a little more chill about it. Your kids hangin' with uncle Jay only makes other people feel like their life sucks compared to yours. You are really great, but I think you should think about a little self-deprecating humor or just some things that are slightly more human. I say this with the deepest respect and admiration for your talents.”
