Drew Barrymore's Mother-Daughter Salon Selfie Provoked Internet Trolls
Everyone take a deep breath.
If Drew Barrymore wanted to switch careers, she could totally be a beauty blogger. Drew documents the secrets behind her beauty routine on Instagram all the time. Remember how she revealed her favorite breakout clearing masks?
This week, Drew is showing her followers all the work she's putting in to get into character for Season 2 of her Netflix show Santa Clarita Diet. That includes yoga with trainer Marnie Alton, manicures, and highlights courtesy of Tracey Cunningham.
She had a little helper in tow for her hair appointment this week: her four-year-old daughter Olive wanted to get in on the fun. "Olive is hanging! And Tracy puts conditioner in foils on her for solidarity."
OK, that's adorable. The majority of commenters on Drew's Instagram thought the conditioner- in-foil trick was a great idea for little girls wanting to play salon. One wrote: "So cute! A deep condition for your wee lassie and she doesn't feel left out either."
But others prepared Drew for a mini-scandal, writing things like: Glad you pointed that out. The Internet mommy police would've had a meltdown. Another said: "Ha just wait for the people who won't read what you wrote and lose their s*** for lightening a child's hair.... Now we wait ... Bahaha."
Sure enough, the photo got some criticism. "[Don't] agree with dying the hair of you kid at such age," one wrote, while another said: "Mmmm she is a baby why?" and "Funny...[Tori] Spelling got scolded for lightening her children's hair...." Others thought Olive's hair has been dyed before. "That kid has had her hair lightened at some point," one conspiracy theorist wrote.
But Drew's fans defended her. "People you do realize that most children have natural blonde highlights.... chill!!" one said. Another commenter wrote: "Some of you have horrible reading comprehension. Drew clearly states that there is conditioner in the foil in Olive's hair, not dye."
There's a lesson here for mom shamers: always read the caption carefully BEFORE you comment.
