Gabrielle Union is revealing one of the most vulnerable parts of her life – her struggle to get pregnant.
The Being Mary Jane star has penned her memoir, We’re Going To Need More Wine, and shares in its pages that she’s had “eight or nine miscarriages,” according to People. The actress goes on to share that for three years, “my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle or coming out of an IVF cycle.”
Married to NBA superstar Dwyane Wade since 2014, Gabrielle has been a dedicated stepmother to Dwayne’s children – even sharing that it was the boys’ desire that the two marry.
But the couple has always had a desire to have more babies, which is why she has endured the painful IVF procedures, and how they still “remain bursting with love and ready to do anything to meet the child we’ve both dreamed of.”
The hardest part of dealing with infertility is when Gabrielle is asked – by family and strangers - when she’s going to have kids of her own.
“For so many women, and not just women in the spotlight, people feel very entitled to know, ‘Do you want kids?'” she shares. “A lot of people, especially people that have fertility issues, just say ‘no’ because that’s a lot easier than being honest about whatever is actually going on. People mean so well, but they have no idea the harm or frustration it can cause.”
Gabrielle’s book, We’re Going To Need More Wine, is available starting Oct. 17.
