Giuliana Rancic Shares How Her Husband is Inspiring Her Wardrobe This Season

Plus, the back-to-school outfit she'll never live down.

By Jenny Berg

Giuliana Rancic has lent her considerable style knowledge to a series of Macy's events this fall, serving as emcee for the retailer's "Fashion's Front Row" event. When we caught up with "G" at Macy's State Street, she gave us the scoop on the seasonal trend she's digging the most.

"You know what I’m loving about fall this year? I feel like styles are not so form-fitting," Giuliana told Lookbook. "Everything’s a little looser. It’s like a throwback to '60s, '70s, a little mod."

Even the dress she wore to the event—a printed shift with bell sleeves—embodied the retro trend. Giuliana also cited menswear-inspired outfits as a look she's ready to embrace. "I think taking some notes from your boyfriend or husband is a good thing," said the Fashion Police star. "I’ve always loved that. I like tailored looks."  And as for shoes, Giuliana has deemed it: the year of the boot. "Knee-high or thigh-high, or over-the-knee—the higher, the better," she says. "Boots are so big right now. They’re everywhere." Stuart Weitzman's Highland Boot, she noted, is style that a lot of celebs gravitate toward.

The E! personality laughed about a boot she wore as a kid, which perhaps wasn't quite so on-trend. One year, looking for the perfect back-to-school getup, she raided her fashionable sister Monica's closet. Her sister had granted her permission to wear a new pair of cowboy-style ankle boots—"which, p.s., are totally in style right now," Giuliana said. "I had no idea what to do with them. I was kind of this lanky girl with a size 10 foot in junior high. Not cute. So I had these big ankle cowboy boots on, and they made my foot look so big. I wore them with big, white scrunchy socks that I normally reserved for my Keds and my Reeboks." She completed the look with spandex biker shorts, and a long, baggy t-shirt. "Needless to say, it was the talk of the first day of school. People were laughing at my outfit all day. I came home and  I said, 'Monica, they were not a hit. No one liked my shoes.' And she goes: 'You’ll see. Everyone will be wearing them in six months.' And they were!"
