My diet soda addiction started in college. It was my fuel to get through exams and tough swim seasons. I used to fill up my Nalgene water bottle up with Diet Coke to get through the day–thinking about that now makes me literally shudder.
After college I decided it was time to clean up my diet (sorry pizza, I can't have you every night) and cut back on the soda. I found the less I drank Diet Coke, the less I craved it. (Unfortunately I can't say the same thing for pizza!) Eventually I found myself kicking my soda habit to the curb and swapping in healthier alternatives that still gave me that soda feeling—but weren't loaded with chemicals, calories and added sugar. It’s a lifestyle change for sure, but if you too are looking to kick the habit, here are some of my favorite sips.
1. La Croix
You've heard the rumors and yes it's all that it's cracked up to be. This stuff has zero calories, zero sweetener and zero sodium, but 100% effervescence. It's so refreshing you will have a hard time not saying "Ahhhh" after each sip.
2. Bai Sparkling
With only five calories and one gram of sugar per can, Bai is bubble perfection. Plus, it's packed with antioxidants and super fruits so it's tasty and good for your body. The Jamacia Blood Orange is a must-try flavor.
3. Kombucha Wonder Drink
Ever heard of kombucha? Me either, until a few years ago when a friend suggested I try it to aid in digestion, and now I am hooked! Like the name, this fermented tea is wonder in a can.
