Is Kanye West Seriously Planning To Start A Makeup Line?
Plus, other buzzy headlines from the week in fashion and beauty.
The past week was filled with notable fashion and beauty moments. ICYMI—or in case you need to chat up a very plugged-in set—here are the week's hottest headlines. Take a skim, and voila! You're an in-the-know fashion pro. Now you just need to master your air kisses.
Okay, so this one is a pretty new entry to the rumor mill. But, for real? Can Kanye West be starting a makeup line? On Thursday, TMZ divulged that the rapper has filed legal documents stating an intention to start a line of cosmetics called DONDA. The name, of course, is in honor of Kanye's late mother Donda.
This isn't the first time 'Ye has hinted at ambitions to use his mother's name in conjunction with business endeavors. In 2012, he even laid out a chart of what DONDA Communications Company would look like. Also, this does kind of remind us of a Snap Kim posted back in September, hinting that big things having to do with makeup were in the works. Perhaps this next endeavor will be a couple's thing?
While we wait for news on the DONDA front, here's another shocking story from the land of lipsticks, eyeshadows, and social-media trolling. The company Z Palette, which offers products geared at organizing cosmetics, recently had it out with some customers on Twitter.
After comments suggesting that the magnetic palettes were too expensive, the company fired back with some spicy, and now deleted, language. "You look like a cheap date," said one comment from the company. (Wow!) Another said: "You're in a dorm room. [The Z Palette] may be a stretch for your budget." Was the company hacked, you ask? Nope! An official statement from reps of the biz—also now deleted—stood by the comments.
That got ugly fast! But in London and Milan this past week, there was beauty all around. London Fashion Week wrapped on Tuesday, after sending looks from the likes of Burberry and Sophia Webster down the runway.
Then, Milan Fashion Week started (it's running through February 28) and rising model Halima Aden is all anyone can talk about there. The stunner, who also appeared in the Yeezy show, has walked for Alberta Ferretti and Max Mara—and she's made fast friends with some of the industry's key players.
Hi, Gigi!
Speaking of the industry's top players: Erika Girardi got profiled in Vogue this week. You've heard how the singer spoke of Gigi and Bella to the mag, but she also opened up about favorite designers. Two she loves in particular are Tom Ford and the late Alexander McQueen. "The way McQueen cut when he was with us was incredible," Erika said.
Last but not least, this is your official reminder: the red carpet to beat all red carpets will roll out at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre on Sunday, and we'll be there ogling all the dresses with you. So go ahead: stock up on your Oscar-party champagne, print out your ballots, and meet us back here to discuss all the gown-age.
