Want to Rent Julia Child's Cottage? It's on Airbnb (and Cheaper Than a Fancy Hotel)

It sleeps up to six and costs a (pretty reasonable) $590 a night.

The coolest new listing on Airbnb is about to make your culinary dreams come true. Julia Child's former home La Pitchoune in Châteauneuf, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France, is available to rent by the night.

Curbed came across the three-bedroom property listed on Airbnb for $590 per night—after it was listed for sale for an asking price of 800,000 Euros last November. The lucky buyer was business strategist and Julia Child fan Makenna Johnson, who, as The Feast reported, plans to turn it into a culinary center and yoga retreat. But that's at least a year away. In the meantime, Airbnb is billing it as place to "walk the footsteps of culinary greats." And, presumably, cook like them, too. Or at least cook in the same room.

La Pitchoune also has a pool and some modern conveniences that Julia could never have fathomed, like WiFi and a surveillance camera trained in the kitchen to ensure that no one dips into the cooking sherry — or tries to steal something valuable from such a historic place, since you're totally allowed to use the sherry or anything else in the room. There's also a guest concierge who lives in a guest house on the property, so you'll be greeted with wine and a well-stocked larder.

When the culinary slash yoga center, called La Peetch École de Cuisine, opens in 2017, it will be a seasonal cooking school that runs April through June and September through October. La Peetch is taking deposits and full payments now for the 2017 classes, which cost $2,950 for four classes and lodging. La Pitchoune is also available for private rentals for $3000 per week through the La Peetch site.
