As the world tries to recover from the emotional tsunami called Lemonade which Beyoncé unleashed on us with little warning Saturday night, we are left with so many questions. Like, is this art or a representation of real life? Did she really break dishes during a fight? Is she still mad at her father? Did Jay Z cheat on her? How many times? So many questions, Beyoncé, so many.
In a dazzling video album that looked more like a feature film, the singer dragged us into her marriage, mainly the rocky parts, and took us on a one-hour rollercoaster of emotions that even Sybil would have struggled with. After cheering, laughing, then crying, in the end, we all baptize ourselves with our fresh tears along with Queen Bey, and move on to forgiveness. It was enough to make you feel carsick.
But one song in particular, Sorry, has everyone buzzing about the rapper’s rumored affair with fashion designer Rachel Roy—who in yet another level of insanity, the internet believed was peppy mac and cheese maker Rachael Ray. Boy, did she have a weird Sunday.
In the song, Beyoncé is angry and sassy, telling Jay (twice) he "better call Becky with the good hair.” Soon after, the Beyhive went nuts, and decided Rachel (Roy) must be the culprit. The designer, not the actual lemonade maker, has long been rumored to be Jay’s mistress, and responded to the Becky comment by posting a selfie to Instagram and writing “good hair don’t care.” It has since been deleted.
It’s enough to make your head explode. While Beyoncé's lyrics may not be literal, something happened to upset her. She was heartbroken and had to learn how to play the piano for this thing and someone is going to pay.
The themes, intuition, denial, anger, apathy, emptiness, accountability, reformation, forgiveness, resurrection, hope, and redemption seemingly all have some of Jay's alleged cheating inside them. So did he do it? Did he cheat on Beyoncé? You tell us.
