Malia Obama or Kate Middleton: Whose Uber-Posh Ski Vacay Is Bougier?

Malia Obama or Kate Middleton: Whose Uber-Posh Ski Vacay Is Bougier?

Tough competition.

One thing we've learned since the Obamas left the White House is that the family knows its way around vacation. Exhibit A was Barack and Michelle's much-publicized jaunt to Richard Branson's Necker island, where chill-dude Barry kitesurfed with a smile like he'd never borne the responsibility to protect the free world.

But daughter Malia wasn't even impressed enough by her parents' bucket-list-worthy accommodations to tag along. No, instead she was attending the Sundance film festival in snowy Park City, Utah. And it appears she has a taste for the snow: Over the holiday weekend, Malia was on a ski trip in Aspen, where she took a photo at Cloud Nine Alpine Bistro, a cozy European-style cabin with a backdrop of the Maroon Bells. It's also billed as "the most boisterous après ski scene on any mountain in North America." And Malia, clad in a U.S.A. hat, was having herself a jolly old time there with some of the richest people on the planet. TMZ identifies her tablemates, pictured above, as schlubs like Elizabeth Tisch (daughter of New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch), designer Monique Lhuillier, and Tassilo von Furstenberg, the grandson of designer Diane von Furstenberg.

No big deal, but Aspen is the type of place that routinely draws gaggles of Real Housewives, as well as a Kardashian or two posing for social media snaps with private planes.

So it would be hard to top that environment if skiing is your thing, right?

Well, you can decide for yourself when you compare it against the ski resort chosen by the royal family last year: France's L’Apogée Courchevel welcomed Kate Middleton, Prince William, and their offspring Prince George and Princess Charlotte in tow.

The resort has a pretty insane collection of Michelin-starred restaurants — five restaurants with two Michelin stars — so foodies will have no problem filling their bellies with quality après ski cuisine.

The resort also offers elite ski classes with Olympic medallist and French ski champ Florence Masnada. And the divine spa comes complete with a blue mosaic pool, and salt sauna.

So you can decide for yourself which country's famous family knows how to do a ski vacation in the poshest style... but from where we sit, the friendly cross-Atlantic rivalry is a win-win.
