You would think being nominated for an Academy Award (and possibly winning one) during Sunday night's Oscars ceremony would pretty much be the highlight of one's week. But something else may have just topped that for Mahershala Ali, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Moonlight at this year's show.
Mahershala welcomed his first child with wife Amatus Sami-Karim on February 22, the actor recently announced on Instagram with a sweet pic of the new mom cuddling their little one.
The couple named their daughter Bari (pronounced Bar-ee) Najma Ali and also noted in the Instagram post that she's a pisces.
As PEOPLE also pointed out, Mahershala and Jimmy Kimmel joked about the possibility of his daughter being born during the actual Oscars ceremony on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January. “I’m hosting the show, and you do what you wanna do, but it’d be really great for our ratings if your wife had the baby during the Oscars,” Jimmy said. “During the monologue would be ideal.”
Perhaps even Mahershala's baby could have gone home with a coveted golden statuette then. “And then you name the baby Oscar, you got no problems going forward," Jimmy continued to joke. “I think they would give little Oscar an Oscar for that.”
