When Hope for Paws received a call about two dogs by the railroad tracks—a poodle that had died, and her best friend pit bull who wouldn’t leave her side—they knew they had to intervene. So two of their patient, compassionate rescuers, Lisa Arturo and JoAnn Wiltz, went down to Lynwood to try and convince the Pittie to come with them.
What followed was an encounter with a dog so sad and scared, the rescuers weren't sure they'd ever be able to coax her away from her friend. But with warmth, treats, gentleness, and encouragement, the Pittie—christened Cassandra—eventually came to trust the women, allowing them to take her to the vet for a check-up and a nice warm bath.
Once she overcame her fears, Cassandra was able to enter foster care—where she immediately made new best friends and bounded about with pure joy. If you're interested in adopting Cassandra, please visit DoggieBonez.
