A Kentucky Town Just Elected a Rescue Pit Bull as Mayor Because Kentucky Rules

This dog has the popular vote!

Mayor De Blasio, Mayor McCheese, John Mayer—these guys have got nothing on Kentucky’s newest mayor: Brynneth Pawltro! Brynneth—or Brynn for short—is a three-year-old rescue pit bull who recently became the country’s most pet-able politician.

Sadly, Brynneth is not actually the canine counterpart to Gwyneth Paltrow. But with that minor disappointment aside, everything else about her is absolutely amazing.

Brynn was “in-dog-erated” as mayor of the Kentucky town Rabbit Hash on January 20th of this year and has been performing her mayoral duties like a good dog ever since. Brynn ran on the platform of “Peace, love and understanding” and leads by example.

According to Brynn’s campaign manager (otherwise known as her owner) Jordie Bamforth, “Brynn has declared to be peaceful with any human or animal that comes through Rabbit Hash, especially the cats. Brynn does like to chase the cats around here, but has pledged to refrain from it as much as possible.” To be honest, we can’t blame her, but we respect her restraint.

Brynn is part of a mayoral dog dynasty: She is the fourth consecutive canine mayor of the town. The unconventional mayoral tradition started in Rabbit Hash in the late 1990s, when the novelty mayor election idea was conceived as a fundraiser. Residents can vote for the mayor as many times as they want, as long as they pay a dollar for each vote. While we can totally see why this smiley pup was elected, she had some ruff competition (we're sorry). She beat out other dogs, a donkey, cat, chicken, and even a little boy. Ambassador positions went to the two runners up, dogs Bourbon and Lady. We can only hope that the chicken gets an honorary position as well; may we suggest town auditor?

Mayor Brynn’s win this year was a landslide, coming in with more than 3,300 votes, meaning she raised $3,300 dollars. Overall the election raised almost $9,000, which was used to rebuild the local general store that had been damaged in a fire. Previous mayor and very cute Border collie, Lucy Lou resigned as she's considering running for president.

While we hope that Mayor Brynn stays in politics, if she also resigns can we suggest an alternate career? We're thinking she can start her own lifestyle brand just like her namesake and the name would be pretty obvious: Boop!
