There’s no denying that New Yorkers love dogs. If you want proof, just look at The Real Housewives of New York—all seven of the 'wives have dogs! From Bethenny Frankel’s dog Cookie to Carole Radziwill’s dog Baby (not to be confused with Baby the cat or Baby the other cat—dammit Carole, buy a thesaurus!), the ladies provide us with a lot of #dogspo. And that's why we're bringing you today’s installment of The Real Shelter Dogs straight from New York and the Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center. Thanks to a network of dedicated employees and volunteers, the shelter houses stray and abandoned animals with the goal of rescuing and rehoming as many animals as possible. (They even have a blog so you can keep up with their adventures.)
And now, meet your Real Shelter Dogs, complete with opening credits-worthy taglines! (If you are interested in giving any of these dog friends a forever home, please visit www.facebook.com/IslipAnimals.)
“Adopt don't shop, unless it's for diamonds and rosé.” - Annabelle
Annabelle is an adorable Pittie girl who is between one and two years old. She has a lot of energy right out of the cage but tires out somewhat quickly and then just wants to mush next to you. She will gladly play dress up and never stops smiling!
“Squeaky toys are an acquired taste. You don't like them? Acquire some taste." - Cali
Cali is a happy, friendly Pit mix who is about four years old. She loves people and loves squeaky toys...a lot. Okay, so she's a little toy-obsessed, but that just means she can keep herself entertained for hours. She also loves laying in the grass and sunning herself.
"My love tank is full and ready to drive off to my future home.” - Delilah
Delilah is a gorgeous black German Shepherd whose owner left her when she moved away. Delilah is an older dog (6+) but is still active and loves to play in the yard with soccer balls, basketballs, and rope toys.
“Other dogs may come and go, but now it’s my turn for a forever home.” - Desi
Desi has been waiting for a forever home for over 3 years now—since she was only a 6-month-old puppy. She's very playful and full of love. She is always wagging her tail!
“I’m coming out of my cage ready to whoop it up.” -Sully
Sully is just one year old and wants a home so badly! He loves getting out of his cage and playing in the yard. He enjoys going for long walks and will gladly show off the commands he knows, especially for a treat!
