They are two of the most unusual (in a good way) characters in Hollywood, so it makes sense that Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix fell in love on the set of their latest movie, in which Joaquin plays Jesus Christ.
In the movie, titled, “Mary Magdalene,” Rooney plays the title character.
Page Six is reporting that more than just filming went on, and that the two fell hard for each other in real life while shooting the biblical epic. They had been spotted entering and leaving the same hotel room in Matera in Southern Italy throughout the shooting schedule and have been spending time together since the film wrapped, a source says, adding that they “found love on set.”
Rooney reportedly skipped Sunday’s Golden Globes, where her film “Lion” was up for four awards, in order to spend time “holed up together in the desert” with Joaquin.
While Phoenix’s rep says the two are “just good friends,” and have been for some time, the two will also star in another film together for 2018, called “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.”
Making things complicated is Rooney’s six-year relationship with director Charlie McDowell, who she has not been spotted with in public since August.
