Sasha Obama's Summer Job Is a Very Unglamorous Gig at a Restaurant

Except she's surrounded by Secret Service agents.

During President Obama’s time in the White House, he’s made many attempts to make his family life as normal as possible. He tries to eat dinner with his family every night, and his daughters do normal teen things like working at internships and going to concerts, and it, appears, getting summer jobs.

The youngest of the presidential daughters, 15-year-old Sasha Obama, who is going by her full given name Natasha for this job, is spending her summer vacation working at Nancy’s, a Martha’s Vineyard seafood restaurant, working the morning shift. She's doing everything from manning the cash register to waiting tables – all under the watchful eye of six burly Secret Service men.

“She’s been working downstairs at takeout,” a server at the restaurant told the Boston Herald“We were wondering why there were six people helping this girl, but then we found out who it was.”

Martha’s Vineyard has always been close to the Obama family's heart; they often visit there on summer vacations, and the whole family is actually there right now for the president’s annual two-week summer break. The Obama family is friendly with Nancy’s owner Joe Moujabber, which, the Boston Herald reports, is how Sasha ended up with this particular gig.

Of course, Sasha is still a presidential daughter, and certain precautions are being taken. Aside from her Secret Service guards, who are on nearby benches and cars watching over her at all times, TMZ reports that there's a long list of restrictions on what Sasha is allowed to do while on the job. She can’t “cook on an open flame, operate pressure cookers, broilers, food slicers, cutters or mixers, bake anything, operate microwaves that heat above 140 degrees, transport grease hotter than 100 degrees, work in freezers or meat coolers or wash windows higher than 10 feet from ground level.”

And, of course, we imagine the customers are showing her some courtesy as well. Imagine complaining the president’s daughter didn’t refill your iced tea quickly enough? Rude. Not to mention all those Secret Service agents who'll have their eyes on you.
