Selena Gomez's Freckles Are Somehow Causing a Social Media Controversy
Faux freckles got people all shook up.
File this under quite possibly the strangest celeb social media controversy yet: Teen Vogue reports that Selena Gomez fans are freaking out about whether or not the "Bad Liar" singer has freckles.
It all started with the video teaser for Selena’s new song, "Fetish," which shows a close-up of just half her face. Celeb makeup artist Hung Vanngo posted a photo of a fresh-faced Selena from the video with freckles across her nose and cheeks. This apparently changed everything for fans. Does Selena have freckles IRL or not?
“But Selena has no freckles,” one fan wrote, while another said, “Selena has freckles how cute is that.” Another said: “Since when Selena has freckles? Is that fraud freckles?”
"Fraud freckles!" Guess what, folks? Those freckles are indeed fake, and Hung is the first to admit it. He posted an Instagram explaining all the makeup he used for this no-makeup look, and it really is virtually no makeup. But Hung did use a pencil to create the freckles, which look impressively natural.
"[Selena's] faux freckles are "(Earth)quake" Matte Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner," he writes.
That pencil is from Marc Jacobs Beauty, and Hung also used the brand's Dew Drops Coconut Gel Highlighter, which is already out of stock at Sephora and Marc Jacobs's site. Her glossy lip color, by the way, is Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer in French Tickler.
And in case you're as obssessed with Selena's pinky-peach nail color as we are, Harper's Bazaar tracked down that it's OPI nail polish in Feeling Frisco. We're adding that and the lip gloss to our carts—and leaving the faux freckles to the professionals.
