Meet The Real Shelter Dogs of Illinois!

Since The Real Housewives of Chicago doesn’t exist, this is our gift to you!

By Stacy Lenz

Illinois is home to the third largest city in the U.S. and yet it is lacking something every major U.S. should have: a Real Housewives franchise. We have yet to see two women dressed like Abe Lincoln scream at each other (because there is always costumed yelling), white wine paired with deep-dish pizza, or a clever, uniquely Midwestern catchphrase that would then be marketed back to us on rhinestone-encrusted hats and shirts.

To fill the Illinois-shaped Housewives hole in your heart, we are bringing you Real Shelter Dogs courtesy of A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter in Naperville, IL. A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter is a no-kill shelter responsible for finding homes for more than 20,000 pets. Today, we are spotlighting some of their long-time residents for reasons twofold: 1. Because they are good dogs deserving of forever home, and 2. Because the shelter is making room to accept dogs displaced by Hurricane Harvey.

And now meet your Real Shelter Dogs, complete with opening credits-worthy taglines! (If you are interested in adopting any of these precious pups, please visit

“If people are petting you behind your back, then you're the one in front!” – Bella

Bella is a very sweet girl who loves people! She takes a little bit of time to warm up, but once she does, all she wants is to sit in your lap! A quieter household would be best for her.

“Am I the life of the party? Of course I am, look at me.– Brutus

Brutus (or "Mr. Happy Pants" as we like to call him) is an exuberant, happy, and active boy who loves to play. Besides being a stellar athlete, Brutus is also stunningly intelligent and learns quickly. He would enjoy a nice playful doggie sibling that has his same active lifestyle!

“Treats are a girl's best friend, and I love friends.– Ginger

Ginger is a very reserved girl that just wants a home to help her get back on track! With some time and trust, she will let you give her some neck scratches. She loves to watch videos of squirrels, birds, and cats! Take a chance on her and you won’t be disappointed—she would even love a doggie friend to live with to show her the ropes!

"You can never be too close, too cuddly, or too furry." – Loki

Loki is a bundle of energy that is full of love! She may jump up to your face, but only for some kisses. Give her a toy or a bone and she will chew it right up in the perfect spot—your lap! (It just means she likes to be close to you.) She's very playful with other dogs too!

"In dog years, age is still just a number. Holla!" – Snoopy

Snoopy is a great old boy who has lived a long, hard life—he was found wandering around in need of help until the shelter rescued him. If you have food, he is your best friend! His hearing may not work, but his beagle nose definitely still does. He is sweet as can be and loves to explore outside. Give this senior a second chance!
