Congratulations are in order for Saturday Night Live’s Aidy Bryant and her fiancé, comedy writer Conner O’Malley! The two got engaged last October but the story of their funny and touching engagement just started making the rounds when Aidy was a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers this week.
Filling in as a guest last minute after Bernie Sanders dropped out, Aidy regaled long time friend and host Seth Meyers with how Connor popped the question. After a full day of work on a Monday, she came home to find her dog in a bow tie.
“I had, like, my purse and our mail and all these boxes, and I walked in the door and our dog had a bow tie on,” Aidy recalled. “I was like, 'My dog doesn't wear a bow tie! Where is he going tonight?' And then basically, the second I shut the door, a man—who I discovered was Conner—frantically came around the corner and was just like, 'Willyoumarryme?' No box. No 'I love you.' No fancy. Just a man in full terror standing very far from a dog in a bow tie, just holding a loose ring going, 'Will you marry me?'"
Dog proposals are very on-trend, but Aidy’s proposal was extra-special since the couple of almost nine years adopted the dog together. Fuzz—a rescue whose name is pretty self-explanatory—clearly has a special place in the couple’s hearts and relationship. Aidy frequently posts adorable pictures of Fuzz on social media, referring to the pup as her husband, where Connor is relegated to mere boyfriend status (perhaps that’s why Fuzz did the proposing?).
With Aidy and Connor’s nuptials looming in the future, will Fuzz be downgraded from social media husband status? Hopefully these three can work it out and happily cohabitate for many years to come.
WWYD if this dog proposed to you? (We’d say “YES, YES, A THOUSAND TIMES YES!”)
