Taraji P. Henson is mourning the death of her 16-year-old dog, Uncle Willie. The Empire star took to her Instagram to share a heartbreaking message: “Although I understand NOTHING lasts forever the pain is still very real. #RipUncleWillie He made it 16 long years. He truly was #BenjaminButton I will miss you soooooooooo much!!!”
After posting the sad news, thousands of fans shared their condolences and several posted tribute photos of the star and her pooch. Taraji regrammed several of them, thanking her fans for their support, and praising them with the hashtag #BestFansEver.
Taraji is a well-documented dog lover, and she even starred in an ad for PETA that encouraged owners to bring their dogs inside during cold weather. While on the shoot, she shared the following sentiment: “Dogs, to me, are like children. They are the closest thing to God. They are so pure in their love, and all they do is aim to please.” Amen.
