Kanye West's "Fade" music video is definitely not family-friendly viewing. From Teyana Taylor's scantily-clad dance routine to that even sexier shower scene, the visual is not exactly something you'd watch around the kids. But as it turns out, making the video was a complete family affair for the singer/actress, who not only filmed it with her real-life beau (Cleveland Cavaliers player Iman Shumpert), but also with their daughter, Iman Tayla Shumpert Jr. After the video premiered at the 2016 VMAs, Teyana spilled the beans to Vogue about the unforgettable collaboration.
"The crazy thing is that before we even got together, he always loved Kanye," she said of Iman's appreciation for the rapper. "So when he found out that Kanye wanted to do this video, he was excited, but at the same time, Iman is Iman, so he was like, 'Oh god, what is Kanye going to have us do in this video?' Before he even knew that we were about to do any shower scenes, he was already like, 'I know Kanye is probably going to have us doing some crazy s***.'"
He wasn't wrong. The duo have a semi-graphic shower love scene that would make most people blush. But the star says she left it all up to Kanye. "I trusted Kanye 100 percent. I was like, 'You want a shower scene? Cool.' What makes it even doper is that he didn’t put me in a position where I was with a male model or male actor. There was trust and comfort and protection because I knew I was with a person that I’m already becoming one with. To have that moment with him, only made that moment so much sexier, so much more genuine, so much more pure," she said. "You felt it off the screen. When I watched it, I felt the love because it was something that I shared with my husband."
After the intense (and NSFW) shower scene, the video ends in a surreal fashion, with the family surrounded by sheep and Teyana transformed into a cat. But the couple's daughter, born last December, was unfazed by the shoot and its odd concept. "It’s almost like Junie is too cool for school. She might be the coolest baby on Earth" said Teyana. "A couple months back at the playoffs, I took a picture of her and Jay Z. And she’s looking like, 'You know, you Hov, but I’m Junie.' She is just so unimpressed."
According to Teyana, Iman seemed pleased with the final results. "He just kept saying how happy he was for me. He kept asking if I was ready because he said, once this video drops, once it’s out here, it’s about to go down. He was dying though. He was asking, 'Are my man buns going to be on the camera?' But everything was all love and laughs and jokes." The actress also mentioned how supportive Iman was throughout the process. "He’s a very private person," she said. "But even if he was uncomfortable with certain things, I would’ve never known. That’s what you call a supporter. 'This moment is about my wife and that’s all that matters.'"
