On the last season of The Bachelorette, we were treated to an absolutely beautiful story of true love. No, we’re not talking about Rachel Lindsay and runner-up Peter Kraus (and, LOL, we’re definitely not talking about Rachel Lindsay and “winner” Bryan Abasolo — what a racket); we’re talking about Rachel Lindsey and her unbelievably adorable dog, Copper. When that adorable shepherd mix with the broken paw bounded out of his doggy limo and into Rachel’s arms, we knew we were witnessing something very special and very real.
Now, pretty much anyone who watched the full season was in agreement that the ending was too berserk to stomach —and honestly, we quickly swore off the series for good and pledged our allegiance to a new dating show, Puppy Playdate. But dammit if those wily producers at ABC haven’t seemed to figure out the one way to lure us back in: By bringing in a whole bunch of Very Good Dogs.
In the very first photos released from this season of the reality franchise, much-maligned Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. appears to be strutting through downtown Los Angeles while on a dog-walking group date. He is dressed in a three-piece suit while the women are dressed to the nines, but really, who cares, because there are 12 unbelievably cute dogs being leash-led with huge smiles on their furry faces. (We’re rooting for the lady walking the Aussie shep!)
At this point, we don’t know the concept behind the date, but we’re certainly hoping it serves as a spotlight for rescue dogs in need (as Lindsay and her true human love Kraus did last season on a pool party date in partnership with BarkBox). Fortunately for The Bachelor — which definitely would have suffered without our viewership — this is pretty much the only thing that could get us on board with Luyendyk Jr.'s season. So, yeah, guess we’ll be watching after all. You win this round, Chris Harrison.
