If you're reading this while bundled in a bunch of sweaters, scarves and thermals, don't worry: The inspirational team over at Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City is giving us the most beautiful, tasty, calorie-laden reminder that spring is near with their blossoming hot chocolate. If you're wondering, yes, that's the very same bakery responsible for viral food sensations such as the Cronut® and architecturally daring churros.
The bakery's signature Blossoming Hot Chocolate features a marshmallow flower that literally "blooms" inside a cup of homemade hot chocolate. While New York typically likes to take credit for everything, this was actually invented at the Dominique Ansel location in Tokyo last year, and thanks to its overwhelming popularity, finally hit the states to cheer everyone up in these uncertain, cold times. The marshmallow itself is held together with a thin ring of white chocolate, so when it hits the steaming-hot cup of cocoa the white chocolate melts away and causes the marshmallow flower to blossom before your eyes—and then there's a tiny chocolate bonbon surprise inside.
The rich, chocolatey sipping drink is currently available in the New York, Tokyo and London locations and looks like enough of a hit to stay on the menu till at least the spring thaw.
