This Is the Important Reason Katy Perry Visited Vietnam

It was no ordinary vacation.

Katy Perry may be a quintessential California girl, but she's just returned from a land very far away from Hollywood... and for a very good reason.

The star is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador — and that good work took her to Vietnam on behalf of the group. The purpose of the trip abroad? To increase awareness of children being left behind in Vietnam, even while that country's economy is growing at a pace among the fastest in Asia.

To be clear, this was not a vacation for the star: She visited the poorest and most remote regions of the country, in Ninh Thuan province, where she spent time with children and families in the local communities.

The "I Kissed a Girl" singer visited programs meant to work toward inclusivity for kids with disabilities. She also bore witness to the organization's work in education and early childhood development, water, sanitation, hygiene, and climate change.

Although she witnessed tough stuff while in Vietnam — sure to stick wit her for a long time — the star's experience was an empowering and important one for the kids in the country.

Go Katy! You're a firework.
