Here’s the thing about Valentine’s Day—it’s an oversubscribed holiday. That means the good restaurants are crowded and overpriced, forcing you into an exorbitant prix fixe menu that you wouldn’t typically go for. Reservations are hard to get, and concerts, comedy shows, and cooking classes have been long sold-out.

My husband also refers to the day as “rookie night”—as in you’re forced to mix with brand new couples who are going overboard to impress one another and are giggling loudly because they’re so nervous. Whether you’re married, in a relationship, or single as can be, this doesn’t sound like a fun night out. But you know what does? A night in, drinking wine and nibbling on cheese. Maybe you want to surprise your man with the big news that your reservation has been cancelled and you’d prefer to guzzle a 2006 Cali Cab on the couch instead. Or maybe you can call your besties, break out the Champs, and gorge on brie. Regardless of what iteration your night takes, having a love-themed bar and sweet entertaining gear will only make the evening more thoughtful for your loved ones.
