These Celebrity Power Couples Have This in Common

Serena and Alexis are the latest to join the elite group.

By Delaina Dixon

Tennis great and clothing designer Serena Williams just tied the knot with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, solidifying their spot as a bonafide power couple. “Power couples are made up of equally strong individuals,” declares Olivia Abramowitz, marketing executive for the dating app, Hinge. “Each person is successful and empowered on their own so when they come together their strengths complement each other, making them one pretty awesome couple."

So what's the key to a successful power couple pairing? “The ones who have met on Hinge are successful together because they don't lose themselves in their relationship,” Abramowitz explains. “In fact, they push and inspire each other to be the best possible version of themselves.”

Abramowitz also says that becoming one-half of a power couple means being your authentic self to find the right person that balances you. And then “follow your passions and push your partner to do the same. When you're both working on something you truly care about, that will only strengthen your relationship and make it even more dynamic.”

Here are nine more celebrity power couples who are the top of their games:

Beyonce and Jay-Z

With a combined net worth of $1 billion, The Carters are one of the most powerful duos in music. Jay-Z launched Tidal, a music streaming business, and of course, Beyonce is one of his top artists. The couple is also grooming the next generation of moguls through their daughter Blue Ivy, who is already working in the family business, and their twin babies.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian

This “first family” of reality TV has been featured on the cover of Vogue (a first for a reality star), repped top brands together like Balmain and make first-page news when having a baby by surrogate. Not to mention their own business which includes clothing and makeup lines, albums, books and appearance fees.

David and Victoria Beckham

What happens when a Spice Girl marries a soccer star? Pure magic. With 18 years of marriage behind them, Victoria has launched a successful clothing line, while David bought a professional soccer team, and has done ads for just about everything. The secret to their success — professionally and personally — is that “we have fun together,” Victoria once shared with Vogue Netherlands.

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith

They fell in love while working in front of the camera, but now this couple is making waves behind it. They own Overbrook Entertainment and have made films like The Pursuit of Happyness and Collateral Beauty, and Will got top billing in both. They also run the Will and Jada Family Foundation, which works to improve lives and better the world through arts, education, sustainability, and social empowerment.

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos

Kelly and Mark have gone from being on daytime drama to making dramatic TV. Through their production company MiloJo, they’ve produced a ton of projects, including the dishy reality series Fire Island which aired earlier this year on Logo. The pair is also set to turn literary gem Geek Girl Rising into a scripted TV series, where they will executive produce the project about female tech entrepreneurs.

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi

Ellen and Portia don’t just take the cutest selfies. Back in 2011, Ellen was planning a comedy project for NBC with her wife Portia attached to star. Since then, Ellen has been actively seeking projects with her production company that Portia can direct. The two are also active humanitarians, working to save animals, art and the human race through their many charitable projects.

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen

If there’s one couple that’s turned social media into an art form, it’s Chrissy and John. Their combined Instagram account followers are over 21 million, who revel in the two sharing pictures of their exotic trips, their fun family moments and sweet messages of how much they love each other. They’ve even worked on a pilot together based on their relationship, which was picked up by ABC in 2015.

Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake

Every power couple has their passions – and Justin and Jessica know how to respect. Since their marriage in 2012, Justin has put out several albums, just shot a new music video and is gearing up for the halftime show at the 2018 Super Bowl. Jessica just executive produced USA’s hit The Sinner. We’re pretty sure they catch up on all their accomplishments at low-key date nights — like the one they recently had at Beauty & Essex in Hollywood.

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez

We were worried that J.Lo would never find her soulmate, but we couldn’t imagine a better catch than baseball legend Alex Rodriguez. About to grace the December cover of Vanity Fair together, the two recently attended the Prostate Cancer Foundation New York gala dinner and raised $1 million at their donor table. More importantly, J-Rod is setting #stylegoals for couples across the globe.
