Stars don’t always get off easy when going through airport security, even with all of their fame. Consider that Olympian Aly Raisman said she was body shamed by a TSA agent, for instance. And we all know how things turned out for Kim Zolciak-Biermann while traveling through Germany, thanks to her epic Twitter rant.
Well, comedian Jane Lynch is the latest celeb to encounter some airport drama during a recent interaction with TSA, and she shared the whole tale with Seth Meyers on Late Night.
The Glee star was on her way back from a film festival in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where she scooped up an award. That’s when she got stopped at the airport.
“It went through the X-ray, and they pulled me aside, and they said, ‘Ma’am, do you have something in your suitcase you want to tell me about?’ And I said no,” she explained. “And they said, ‘Well we saw something, and its shaped like a cylinder, and if you can’t tell me what it is, you’re going into that room, and we’re taking your bag into that room.’”
That’s when it clicked for her: “I remembered it’s the award,” she said. “They thought it was a pipe bomb! It’s long and skinny.”
Jane was actually quick to give TSA some props for doing their job — but interviewer Seth had a different interpretation. Noting that Jane is also shooting a movie about the Unibomber, Ted Kaczynski, he joked that the agents might also have found that script in her bag and assumed the worst. Seth poked a little fun at the agency: “We're not great at connecting the dots, but you're making it very easy!”
