Bravolebrity and top interior designer Taylor Spellman has been on-the-go nonstop since filming Yours, Mine or Ours? with Shahs of Sunset’s Reza Farahan. While designing seems to be in Taylor’s blood, she also draws her inspiration from New York City, Tulum, and “three too many glasses of cabernet” while reading design magazines. We had a chance to catch up with the power-woman in between her busy meetings and top secret projects to find out what her life is like now, why her design firm is all-female, and how to add a touch of summer to any room!
Personal Space: What have you been up to since filming Yours, Mine or Ours?
Taylor Spellman: The bigger question is: what haven’t I been up to?! It has been an absolute whirlwind since YMO wrapped. We now have 11 employees, brand ambassadorships and so many amazing projects. I feel like I have slept for about one hour over the course of the past six months. And I’m loving every minute of it.
PS: Are you and Reza still in touch?
TS: Yes, absolutely! After hanging out with Reza every day for four months straight, I am still going through Reza withdrawal. He is by far the most hilarious human and I am absolutely in love with his amazing husband, Adam. I am planning to see them next time I’m in LA!
PS: Tell us about your upcoming projects.
TS: I am happy to report that there are some projects I can tell you about, and some projects I cannot tell you about, as I would have to kill you. I kid, I kid! My firm has been asked to design a number of new developments throughout the city, including a very top secret project in the Lower East Side, that is the first of its kind. I just partnered with the St. Regis and my favorite luxury Italian linen brand, Frette, in an exciting new venture. Also, I am so excited to be partnering with the American Cancer Society for their annual gala to support Hope Lodge NYC. I rarely have a free moment and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
PS: Your luxury interior design & staging firm, Taylor Spellman NEW YORK, is an all-women team. How did you decide that was what you wanted?
TS: Believe it or not, it wasn’t intentional having a team of all women, though it actually happened quite organically. Every time I was looking for a new designer or senior management person, a highly skilled and intelligent woman always showed up; some of whom happen to be my life long best friends. My greatest achievement is to be able to stand at the helm of a team of incredibly sophisticated, supremely witty, and fiercely talented women.
PS: Do you think your firm will hire men at some point?
TS: I will gladly hire men, if they present themselves as brilliant and drama free as the women on my team.
PS: What are some easy inexpensive ways to give your home some summer flair?
TS: The single best way to create seasonal flare any time of year is with flowers! For the summer I always recommend hydrangeas, eucalyptus, garden roses, and ranunculus. A simple glass vase with your favorite color garden rose and some greenery, will give any space some serious summer vibes. Also, you can never go wrong with a quick trip to TJ MAXX or HomeGoods for colorful pillows in bright summer shades – blues, greens, corals and yellows. Pair those interior fixes with a chilled glass of rosé and you’re in business.
