Your Personal Year of Beauty: How Often to Book Haircuts, Facials and More
When to schedule pedicures, facials, cuts, and color.

“She was the most fastidiously groomed and exquisitely moisturized person he’d ever met.” That's how Vogue visionary André Leon Talley described Kim Kardashian West to The New York Times. That statement right there is #goals for 2017: be "fastidiously groomed and exquisitely moisturized." This is clearly going to take a lot of salon time. To get organized, we pulled together a beauty treatment calendar with tips from experts on when you're "supposed" to book various treatments, from facials to pedicures.
The Service: Haircut
How Often: Every 4 to 12 weeks. It all depends on your hairstyle, according to Allure. If you have long hair or tight curls, aim for 8 to 12 weeks. Those who have choppy layers or a bob or lob should aim for 6 weeks, and pixie cuts start to need a refresh every 4 weeks.
The Yearly Breakdown: Between 4 and 13 times a year
The Service: Hair Color
How Often: Every 4 to 12 weeks. This time it depends on your hair color, says Refinery29. Redheads’ color will start fading at just 4 weeks, blondes can make it 8 weeks, and brunettes without grays can make it 12 weeks.
The Yearly Breakdown: Between 4 and 13 times a year
The Service: Manicure
How Often: Every 1 to 2 weeks for regular nail polish, according to the experts at Sally Beauty. It just depends on how fastidious you are about your nails: if you need absolutely perfect nails (or you chip them constantly like us), once a week might be a better bet. But if you can touch them up at home too, you could stretch it to two weeks. Those who love longer-lasting gel manicures, just know that experts advise limiting your gel treatments to 2 times a month.
The Yearly Breakdown: Between 26 to 52 times a year for regular polish or 24 times a month for gels
The Service: Pedicure
How Often: 1 to 2 times a month is generally standard advice from experts, but no judgements here if you deviate from that schedule during boot weather.
The Yearly Breakdown: 6 to 12 times a year
The Service: Eyebrow Wax
How Often: Once a month is what the founder of NYC’s Boom Boom Brow Bar recommends.
The Yearly Breakdown: 12 times a year
The Service: Bikini Wax
How Often: Once a month, according to the waxing gurus at NYC- and DC-based Shobha. Again, this depends on how fast your hair grows, so it could be more like every 3 to 5 weeks. Here’s Shobha’s tip: the hair should be long enough to lay flat on the skin, so wait another week so if it is still poking straight out.
The Yearly Breakdown: 12 times a year
The Service: Facial
How Often: Every 2 to 4 weeks, according to NYC’s Silver Mirror, which calls itself a “skin maintenance shop.” Silver Mirror’s Seoul-inspired ethos is to get American women to fit facials into their lifestyle in the same way they get manicures.
The Yearly Breakdown: Between 12 and 24 times a year
The Service: Teeth Whitening
How Often: 1 initial in-office whitening treatment a year and then at-home treatments once “every few months” or “every few weeks” for coffee lovers, according to New Beauty.
The Yearly Breakdown: 4 to 10 times a year.
