Working with an Old Flame? Flipping Exes Have Some Advice for You

Bravo's latest home and design show comes with a side of relationship counseling.

By Tamara Palmer

Starting a business with a friend can be exceedingly tough, but getting a new venture off the ground with a romantic ex is even harder. But former couple Nina Klemm and Michael LeSure have nailed it — they work together to buy, flip, and sell high end properties in Carmel, Indiana, which Nina describes as "the Beverly Hills of the Midwest." Now, they're sharing their secrets on Bravo's newest home design and real estate series, Flipping Exes.

"I feel like it’s OK to work with your ex if you guys have clear boundaries," Michael said in the above video.

"We don’t have boundaries," Nina replied.

"I do," he said.

"OK, well, I don't," she said.

"You are very emotional," he told her, "so you just have to know how to deal with that type of temperament if you aren't a real emotional type of guy. I would interpret it as dramatic but she’s a woman so I just had to basically have a sensitive spirit and understand what she's going through."

Nina has some advice of her own, though.

"One thing about working with your exes is that you have to be honest, literally, bluntly honest," she added. "If you can't be honest with them then you don't need to be working with them. And also, you can't mess around. Like, when you are done you’re going to be done, so you can't be done but not really be done. Like, you've got to be done if you’re going to work together."

Get more advice from Flipping Exes in the video above and on the series, which premieres on Tuesday, August 6 at 10/9c.
