If you're obsessed with royals, but London seems awfully dreary for your vacation tastes, consider an alternative vacation idea in sunnier climes: There is a Kate Middleton-themed cafe in Australia that will allow you to sip in the sophisticated style of the Duchess of Cambridge... without London's well-known gloomy weather this season. (For reference, in England's winter months, temps range in the mid-40s — and it rains there about one in three days all year long — while Melbourne's highs in December, Australia's summer, near 80.)
The Melbourne venue known as Middletown Cafe is a picture of prim elegance, with navy blue and white walls, and marble tables.
The menu includes healthy (and totally on-trend) options like paleo granola and chia seed pudding.
The cafe's owner, Randy Dhamanhuri, told People that Kate was his “muse” as a royal who people feel they can actually relate to. He called her, as many would agree, "the definition of timeless beauty and class in this modern age."
The decor for the cafe, he said, came from her style, with navy being a color that evokes royals, and diamond-shaped marble terrazzo tiles in a pattern meant to resemble the look of Westminster Abbey, the church where Kate married Prince William.Illustrations, such as one showing the Duchess' famous heirloom sapphire engagement ring, cover the walls. “It’s a subtle hint to show that Kate ‘lives’ here, without putting her portrait,” Dhamanhuri told People.
Has Kate herself actually made it into the cafe? Sadly, according to the owner, not yet. But he says — naturally — "that would be the dream."
By the way, if you're keen on a visit to Australia for sunshine alone, and don't care much for Kate one way or the other, consider Sydney and Brisbane, which are much warmer than Melbourne even in the country's wintertime.
