N.Y.C. Versus L.A.: Which One Is Fredrik Eklund's Fave

Fredrik Eklund transplanted his young family across the country this summer, moving from his beloved Manhattan to that other coast — yep, the West Coast. Since relocating to a stunning Beverly Hills mansion, the Million Dollar Listing New York broker, his husband, Derek Kaplan, and their twins, Freddy and Milla, have been soaking in the California sun and spending lots of time hanging out by their gorgeous infinity-edge pool. While his family is hanging there full-time, Fredrik is bicoastal, spending time out west in Manhattan and in Miami.

But would the power broker ever consider living in L.A. permanently? “It’s really hard for me to ever imagine leaving New York City, I mean that is my identity,” Fredrik revealed to Home & Design recently. “I came here and I am Mr. New York. It’s like my spirit animal, I can’t even see myself not living here. I am so connected to New York, the streets are like veins in my body. And because I’ve been spending so much time over 15 years with all the people — the sellers and the buyers — like all the New Yorkers, it’s my family.”

Another reason why Fredrick is hesitant to leave: His brother just moved to New York from Sweden with his wife and three kids. “The timing is really bad,” Fredrik admitted. “My brother just moved to be close to us and the twins. I’ve been living away from my brother for 15 years and to finally now be together like a family in New York City. This is like a life-changing, massive decision and I’ve got to take some time to think about it.”

Follow Fredrik’s journey on MDLNY, which airs on Thursdays at 9/8c!
