Leonardo DiCaprio is about to turn a titanic profit.
The Oscar winner has just listed a Malibu beach home he bought back in 1998 for $1.6 million — and now he’s asking $10.95 million! If he gets what he’s asking, he’d make a profit of nearly $10 million. And that’s not pocket change.
If you’re picturing some major manse at this price point, you’d be underestimating Malibu beachfront real estate value. The home, according to Trulia, is more of a cottage, at a modest 1,765 square feet. It’s located on Carbon Beach, more popularly referred to as “Billionaire’s Beach,” where the population lives up to the elite moniker — but the beaches are actually not private.
Last year, Leo put the humble home up for rent last year as a vacation property, asking a mere $23,000 monty in the off season, or $50,000 in the peak season of summer — and that is pocket change compared to some east coast rentals attached to big names! Looking at you, Beyonce and Jay Z (who once stayed in a Hamptons home that later asked $1 million a month) and Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (whose NYC Airbnb rental is in the range of $100,000 monthly).
What it lacks in size and over the topness, the home does make up for in not only location but also serious charm: There’s a courtyard that leads to the beach, and a private hot tub on a deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
There are ocean views, as you might expect, from nearly every room.
By the way, Trulia also reports that this property isn’t the star’s first home in Malibu. Just a few years back, in 2013, he sold another beachfront property for $17.35 million. He had also leased out that one as a vacation rental for a mere $150,000 monthly. (So take that, Kimye.)
