Call it nouveau riche meets old money: While out in the desert for Coachella, Wiz Khalifa stayed in an exquisite Palm Desert home that once belonged a tycoon of a different type in an earlier era. Built by architect William Pereira — famous for the design of San Francisco's iconic Transamerica Tower — it was the former estate of tire magnate, philanthropist, and Belgium ambassador Leonard K. Firestone.
The restored 7,000-square-foot midcentury vacation estate sprawls over 1.3 acres.
It has mountain views, and a sunken night-lit tennis court plus resort-style courtyard pool. The freeform pool has 12 chaise lounges, covered areas, and umbrella stands for shade against the desert sun.
There's also an outdoor fireplace.
Inside the open-concept home are high wood-beamed ceilings, and fine furnishings. The main house great room features two living rooms; the focal point of the main living room is a 75-inch TV and wet bar.
The second living room has the massive original stone fireplace, and a wall of glass opens to the pool deck. A third living area and second kitchen is located in the detached 2,000-square-foot, four-bedroom guest house, newly rebuilt in 2004 and meant to mimic the price tag of the main home.
A new and huge modern kitchen features a large peninsula and tons of counter space, top-end appliances, including a 48-inch refrigerator, two dishwashers, wine cooler, ice maker, and six-burner stove.
The price tag? About $2,340 per night... or free if you're Wiz Khalifa.
Yes, he's the latest in a long list of celebs who have gotten the Airbnb hookup in exchange for social media love. To name a few, Mariah Carey scored a $60 million Italian villa, Britney Spears scooped up a $30 million Malibu manse, and Lady Gaga posted up in a $20 million Super Bowl crash pad.
