According to a new book by Vicky Ward called Kushner Inc., the duo were so bad at handling the media that he wanted them to move back to New York City in 2017. “Get rid of my kids; get them back to New York,” Trump instructed his staff.
He blamed Ivanka and her husband for his own bad press, and complained they “didn’t know how to play the game," according to The New York Times, which recently teased the book.
The author tweeted Monday night that she wrote the book "in part to pierce the narrative that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner have been moderating influences on the president. They are far from stabilizing forces. They are, in fact, his chief enablers.”
The book reports that Kelly told Trump it would difficult to fire family, but that if they “made life difficult enough to force the pair to offer their resignations,” Trump would accept. But Kelly resigned last December, and the couple has remained employed.
Meanwhile, Kushner's spokesman tells The Times, “Every point that Ms. Ward mentioned in what she called her ‘fact checking’ stage was entirely false.”
“It seems she has written a book of fiction rather than any serious attempt to get the facts. Correcting everything wrong would take too long and be pointless,” he added.
The author took to Twitter, responding that “the 220 people I interviewed for the book might beg to disagree.”
The book will be published by St. Martin’s Press on March 19.
