Here’s How Meghan Markle Is Spending Her First Birthday After Marrying Prince Harry

She won't be in Botswana when she rings in 3-7.

Last August, Prince Harry took Meghan Markle to Botswana for the second time, on a voyage that reportedly served as both a birthday trip and a first anniversary trip.

Not only will the couple be sticking much closer to home for the Duchess of Sussex’s 37th birthday on Aug. 4, the newlyweds will be doing one of the most relatable couple-y activities ever — attending a friend’s wedding.

Prince Harry’s childhood chum Charlie Van Straubenzee, is marrying Daisy Jenks in Surrey, England, on Saturday. The men have been pals since their days at Ludgrove Prep School, and both Charlie and his brother were ushers in the royal nuptials back in May.

While it’s not the most romantic way to celebrate a birthday, it’s pretty likely that Meghan Markle’s best man (errr, we mean the wedding party’s best man) will find a little time to make it special for his new wife. The couple reportedly has that trip to the U.S. coming up soon, possibly a delayed honeymoon, and let's not forget all those rumors that they are ready to add a little one (most recently fueled by the fact that Prince Harry may have just traded his car in for something more family-friendly).

And, as for what could top the wish list of a woman who, in many people's eyes already has it all, let’s go back to a time when the (now) royal still was active on social media. Back in 2014, she shared these words of wisdom with ELLE UK and, frankly, they hold true for any year and any person’s birthday, too.

"I am 33 years old today. And I am happy. And I say that so plainly because, well… it takes time,” Markle wrote. “To be happy. To figure out how to be kind to yourself. To not just choose that happiness, but to feel it.”

She continued, "So for my birthday, here's what I would like as a gift: I want you to be kind to yourself. I want you to challenge yourself.”

“I want you to stop gossiping, to try a food that scares you, to buy a coffee for someone just because, to tell someone you love them… and then to tell yourself right back. I want you to find your happiness."

Here's to you, Meghan Markle. We'll be off trying cricket chips, paying it forward, loving ourselves, and keeping our fingers crossed for our own Prince Charming.
