Meghan McCain has been right by her father John McCain's side as he battles brain cancer and has decided to stop seeking treatment per a statement released by the family on Friday. And when he was diagnosed last year, the news accelerated her thinking about her own life and relationship with her boyfriend of two years, Ben Domenech, and they decided to get married sooner.
“There was something about Ben being there for me, at my father’s treatments," Meghan told PEOPLE after their November wedding. "I was like, ‘This is love.’ I felt this overwhelming sense of time and my own mortality. We ended up saying, ‘Let’s do this now.’”
“This brought into focus how important it was for Meghan to have her dad see her get married, and to have that happen while he was still fully there and fully able to participate," Ben said. "This was something that she needed.”
In an age where it's common for people to not even want to invite family members to their wedding, Meghan took hers chiefly into consideration for her marriage.
