Should Kathryn C. Dennis Accept Ashley Jacobs' Apology? A Therapist Weighs In

You don't always have to forgive and forget.

By Marianne Garvey

When it comes to someone apologizing for publicly bashing your mothering skills, do you really have to forgive them? One therapist has an interesting take on that.

Southern Charm's Ashley Jacobs recently posted a lengthy note apologizing for her comments about Kathryn C. Dennis on Instagram Wednesday — and Kathryn wasn't having it.

Kathryn's good friend Danni Baird captured the Southern Charm mom's reaction in her Instagram Stories, saying, "I just want your reaction. Have you looked at Insta lately? Don't freak out."

Kathryn is seen shaking her head, and her jaw drops over what she's reading. "Are you kidding me?" she said. She also confirmed she would never accept an apology from Ashley during the Southern Charm After Show

Dr. Liz Lasky says that being criticized as a mother is so commonplace that “mothers feel like they need to build a thick skin to deal with critical comments.”

“Does a mother have to accept an apology from a critical person?” She asks. “No! In fact, many relationships change when someone becomes a parent. People choose to put up boundaries around who they want to spend time with and who they want to listen.”

While many people choose to accept the apology and move on, Kathryn doesn’t have to make it all good with Ashley if she doesn’t want to.

Either choice makes sense to me,” Liz says. “It’s ultimately a very personal decision.”
